Sunday September 14 – Save the Date!
I can't tell you how long I've been wanting to host a special lunch at the vineyard for family and friends of Box Grove, using my wines and produce either grown on the farm or sourced locally. I have been wanting to work with a chef I admire, and who uses my wines regularly. Someone who understands what I am doing in the vineyard and who cooks with the same passion and love as I feel for my vineyard…
Rosa Mitchell has been a great supporter of our wines—particularly our Italian varietals. She has been serving my Prosecco by the glass since she opened Rosa’s Kitchen in Punch Lane a year ago. I love calling in to see her when I am in Melbourne. I usually try to time my visits around lunch, so I can enjoy a steaming bowl of Rosa's Sicilian-inspired pasta with a Vermentino, or a hearty slow-cooked lamb dish with a rich and inky Nero d’Avola or spicy Primitivo!
Rosa thinks a lot like me. She respects tradition, and loves to celebrate the bounty and flavours of regional food. She doesn’t like tricking things up, just nurturing the fresh and natural flavours and celebrating seasonality.
She has just left for a month in Italy, eating and seeking further inspiration and ideas for her restaurant. Before she left she came up to the vineyard and together we walked around and looked at the fruit we have growing in the orchard, the wild fennel along the creek, the quince and pomegranate trees, the poultry yard, the vegetable garden. We settled on a place to put the long table and what food and wine to feature.
We also settled on a date. So if you are interested, best put it in your diary now:
Sunday 14 September from 12 noon.
'Rosa’s Kitchen at Box Grove Vineyard' will be our way to celebrate the end of winter, the approach of a new season and the launch of our new Spring wines—Prosecco, Saignée, Roussanne and Vermentino. And to simply enjoy some good food and great company!
We are still finalising the dishes we will serve in the four course menu and the final price, but we hope to keep it to about $120 per head. Once we have worked out all our costs, we will let you know. This is advance notice for my special friends! Places will be limited, so if you are interested, do let me know as soon as you can. We will also be letting Rosa's customers know soon, and devotees of Melbourne Food and Wine Festival who attend the Spring Graze activities after that.
We are hoping for warm Spring sunshine. But if not, we can still promise you beautiful music, delicious food and plenty of generously flavoured wine, along with crackling fires.
It's going to be fun. Save that date!
