Raising the Roof with our 2011 Roussanne
16 February 2015,—
The Wine & Viticulture Journal have rated our 2011 Roussanne one of the top four in its inaugural tasting of Australian roussanne and roussanne-dominant blends.
Seventeen table wines were blind-tasted by a panel of experts including Peter Fraser of McLaren Vale's Yangarra Estate and Sue Bastin, senior lecturer of oenology and sensory studies at The University of Adelaide.
The panel described our 2011 Roussanne as having a "perfumed, very attractive, medium to high-intensity, complex nose" and a "streamlined palette".
Sadly, roussanne is very much a niche variety. It has passionate followers but isn't featured on many wine lists and those that love roussanne adore its long lingering flavours. Panelist, Pete Fraser said roussanne is ideal for people who don't normally like white wines.
It's the red wine drinker's white wine because it's got that richness of tannin. An example of a good roussanne is one that has a crunchy lime peel, pithy, fresh textural finish.
