The best of Thai flavours in Avenel

Chāar Long literally means slow down in Thai. And we are very lucky that successful Thai restaurateurs Yao and John O'Donoghue chose to do their slowing down in Avenel when they sold their busy restaurant in Shepparton.

Describing themselves as owners, managers, chefs, floor staff, bar staff and cleaners, John and Yao designed and built the little restaurant themselves, to feel like an extension on their own home. Perched beside the old stone bridge in Avenel overlooking the Hughes Creek, (as I do several kilometres downstream).

In spirit with the vibe of slowing down, the restaurant is open from Thursday to Sunday for lunch only. They serve up a delicious 5 course set menu that varies with the seasons using local ingredients (like my Kaffir limes and leaves!!).

All reservations are made via their website so tying in lunch to Chāar Long with a visit to Avenel needs to be planned well ahead.

They are planning Thai cooking classes down the track and special menus down the track so check their website before you plan a trip up our way.
